Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate diverse year-round environmental education program at 150 acre nonprofit Nature Center.  Programs include onsite school lessons and outreach programs at area schools/community centers for students pre-kindergarten through high school, after-school nature classes, scout programming, homeschool programs, birthday parties and public programming for adults and children of all ages
  • Supervise all paid education staff and summer nature day camp personnel.
  • Supervise and train adult volunteer Trail Guides and student counselors/interns.
  • Manage all aspects of state-licensed Summer Nature Day Camp.
  • Assist Executive Director in budget development and grant writing.
  • Develop new programs, curriculum, publicity and other program-related use of the center.
  • Ensure that school programming meets New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
  • Implement design elements and programming for existing capital upgrade projects including a renovated exhibit room and raptor aviary; Engage in concept planning, design development and implementation of a planned outdoor classroom.
  • Work effectively with the Board of Trustee’s Education Committee to provide strategic plans, goals and objectives, and policy improvements for the Education program
  • Assist in production and editing of a tri-annual newsletter, publications, website communication and social media.
  • Update/maintain an effective tracking system of participants/demographics to properly document program participation.

Qualifications:

B.A. or B.S. degree in environmental education, environmental science or related field.  Minimum 3 years of teaching and administrative experience at an environmental center or similar facility recommended.  Experience in curriculum and program development required.  The ability to work well with all ages and all types of people is expected, along with training and supervising staff and volunteers.
