Duties
Provides administrative support to the Legislative Affairs Office
- Monitors Legislative correspondence and ensures the agency is providing timely responses.
- Acts as the first point of contact and the face of the Legislative Affairs Office, receiving calls and visitors and providing high-quality customer service.
- Coordinates meetings between WDFW Legislative Affairs and Legislative Offices.
- Supports records management needs and responses to public disclosure requests
Support legislative strategy development, bill tracking and communications
- Supports the Legislative Coordinator in identifying subject matter experts within the agency to track and analyze bills.
- Prepares bill tracking and hearing schedule reports for the Legislative Affairs Team.
- Edits, prints and packages communications tools like factsheets and PowerPoint presentations for legislative outreach.

- Learns about day-to-day activities of policy and public affairs staffers, biologists, natural resource workers, hatchery technicians, wildlife area managers, and other department staff to build awareness of career opportunities.
Special projects as needed
- This position demands flexibility, determination, and a willingness to take on both creative and routine administrative and logistics-oriented projects to meet department objectives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate from, an undergraduate or graduate degree program in public relations, public administration, communications, environmental science, environmental education, conservation biology, or related field. If enrolled in an undergraduate program, must be a junior or senior.
- Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in the natural resource field.
- Experience working independently and interacting with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning new skills and contributing to a team.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Customer service experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment, including a computer and office telephone system.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, in particular Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with natural resources, conservation, and outdoor recreation issues in Washington.
- Familiarity with the Washington State Legislature and the legislative process.

Working Conditions:
- Working environment is a busy office setting. Varying degrees of activity occur in the common areas during working hours; most tasks will involve sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Incumbent must be able to work amid distraction.
- Standard business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5 p.m., but may be required to work more than 40 hours per week or on weekends to meet deadlines during peak periods and/or to meet business needs.
- Some travel may be required throughout the State to attend training, meetings, and conferences.
