Job Summary
The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for a MENV Assistant Director for Programs position. The Assistant Director for Programs sits within the Masters of the Environment (MENV) professional degree program, which is administered by the Environmental Studies Program. The MENV program is an interdisciplinary professional graduate degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to address complex environmental challenges, and prepares them to become leaders in a wide range of careers in the environment, energy, natural resources, and sustainability. The Assistant Director for Programs serves as the internal administrator of operation for the MENV program. This position will be responsible for program coordination by providing administrative support to faculty in their teaching efforts and by designing and implementing program procedures that ensure that program goals are fulfilled. The Assistant Director for Programs will interact continually with admitted and current MENV students, faculty, staff, and CU administrative offices, including the Graduate School and the offices of the Registrar and Bursar. The Assistant Director for Programs manages a staff to support the functions of the MENV programs office. This position will focus on all facets of the student experience, as well as the development of a nationally recognized professional degree program.

The Masters of the Environment (MENV) Graduate Program at the University of Colorado Boulder is an innovative, interdisciplinary professional master’s degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to address the complex environmental challenges of the 21st Century. This 17-month, immersive, cohort-based graduate program builds students into leaders in a wide range of careers in conservation, consulting, energy, natural resources, planning, policy, sustainability, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead program planning, including drafting of program plans, analytics, and status reports.
- Facilitate the implementation of all facets of program monitoring and evaluation and strategic plan benchmarks.
- Develop and execute new program improvements in concert with MENV staff.
- Identify challenges, weaknesses, and trouble spots and make recommendations to relevant MENV committees and the Advisory Board for program growth and improvement, including new policies, resolutions, strategic planning, and other innovations.
- Support integration of new specializations into overall program.
- Provide non-academic support to the program (e.g., conflict resolution, logistics, funding issues, etc.)
- Provide instructor and faculty support including consult on resolving student issues, approval for course related expenditures, notification of program policies.
- Direct program administrative operations.
- Oversee MENV program budget development and management of MENV funds
- Monitor MENV expenditures, income, and reconciliation budget-to-actuals by working closely with the MENV Finance Professional.
- Coordinate with the Graduate School on receipt of tuition revenue from the campus budget office.
- Oversee contracts and human resources requirements of MENV instructors, staff, and student workers.
- Onboard new faculty, staff, and graduate student workers, including coordinating all necessary administrative paperwork and familiarizing new employees with all relevant program and CU-Boulder policies and proceed.
- Oversee communications to admitted and current students, faculty and staff
- Coordinating with the MENV Associate Director, and other members of the MENV administration, to establish policies and procedures as needed.
- Serve as liaison on administrative and staff matters with the Environmental Studies Program.
- Participate in intra-campus working groups and committees.
- Oversee incoming student processing following their acceptance into the MENV Program. This includes providing all relevant information to incoming students to allow them to successfully matriculate into the program. This includes guidance on registration, tuition payment, financial aid, and other relevant information. This also includes coordinating with other MENV staff to ensure a smooth transition from student recruitment to incoming student processing activities, the student experience on and off campus, and oversee engagement and cooperation with other CU units on all CU campuses.
- Oversee engagement and cooperation with student support units at the University of Colorado.
- New Student Orientation: oversee planning and execution along with the MENV team for a successful introduction to the MENV program.
- Assist the Assistant Director for External Relations and Recruitment with the development and implementation of a career services program.
- Oversee student advising staff.
- Advise students regarding electives, general path through and navigation of the program, and any student life and wellness issues they may encounter, and also coordinate with the Assistant Director for External Relations and Recruitment on providing advising for students on prospective career paths.
- Organize all elements of MENV Graduation, including planning, information distribution, and implementation.
- Manage all MENV Programs staff including the Graduate Program Coordinator, the Finance Administrator, graduate student workers, as well as any others.
- Coordinate searches for any new MENV Programs staff, including interviewing and hiring, as well as mentoring, coaching and evaluating all MENV Programs staff under her/his management responsibility. Mentoring and coaching should be both written and oral, as needed.
- Responsible for providing MENV Programs staff with regular performance feedback and meets with staff to schedule pending projects and activities.
- Participate with MENV staff in recruiting and professional development events, as needed, at the direction of the MENV Associate Director. Some events may fall outside of regular work hours.

Salary
The anticipated starting salary is $70,000, commensurate upon experience.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or Business Administration.
- 8 years of professional experience including four years of budget and budget tracking responsibilities.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- 4 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Law or Business Administration.
- 10+ years of professional experience.
- 5 years of employee supervision and management responsibilities of at least three staff, including demonstrated supervisory and coaching skills.
- At least 5 years in program management and/or project management.
- Experience in education program development, budget, and coordination.
