OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon is seeking a Senior Strategic Organizer and/or a Community Organizer to join our dynamic and growing team of staff and volunteer leaders for 2011 and beyond. OPAL is a multiracial grassroots nonprofit empowering working class communities and people of color to promote environmental and social justice. OPAL believes all communities should have opportunities for meaningful civic participation and a healthy environment. OPAL will look to fill either position with the most qualified candidate, and depending on the fit, may elect to hire for just one or both positions.
OPAL program work for 2011 will focus primarily on Transit Justice and Health Equity work, focused on leadership development opportunities within East Portland’s diverse transit-dependent communities that do not currently receive their fair share of resources. Strong candidates will have an understanding of social, economic and environmental justice, an interest and experience in intercultural community relationships and capacity building, and a demonstrated commitment to rigorous leadership development. SENIOR STRATEGIC ORGANIZER
The Senior Strategic Organizer position is for an individual with significant experience working on and managing grassroots campaigns for social chance (political campaign experience will also be considered). The successful applicant should demonstrate an ability to develop, coordinate and manage OPAL’s grassroots organizing campaigns and support related policy advocacy. This organizer will engage in both supervisory work of other staff, volunteers and members, as well as direct organizing and mobilization.
Salary / Pay Rate: $32500 to $40000
COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
Position is for an entry- or mid-level community organizer with an expectation of collaborative teamwork and ability to empower members The Community Organizer position is for an individual with basic leadership skills and (non-supervisory) campaign organizing experience. The successful applicant should demonstrate a commensurate level of cultural competency, awareness of race/class disparities, and a commitment to learning and/or honing their grassroots organizing skills and working with diverse communities. The organizer will primarily engage in direct outreach, education and engagement activities to support OPAL’s ongoing campaigns.
Salary / Pay Rate: $25000 to $32500
