Where: Travel from Taylor Shellfish Farms headquarters in Shelton, WA to surrounding farms all over the Puget Sound.

Job Description: Taylor Shellfish Farms is one of the largest producers of farmed shellfish in North America. We are a vertically integrated shellfish company looking for qualified, self-motivated individuals who want to work in the aquaculture industry, with an emphasis in the farming process. The company is quickly growing in sustainable shellfish farming with new techniques and innovative growing methods.  Our goal is to integrate individuals into our company for long term employment.

Individuals will learn all aspects of working on clam, oyster and geoduck farms. The position is full time and the schedule is 10 working days followed by 4 off days.  Internship objectives include:

1.       Learn the duties and responsibilities of planting and caring for shellfish seed.

2.       Learn the duties and responsibilities of farming different species throughout their life cycle.

3.       Perform ground maintenance tasks to learn the day to day farming responsibilities.

4.       Work with farm managers to sample and survey clam/oyster populations.

5.       Participate in harvest.

6.       Become familiar with operating boats and other farm related equipment (during the program participants will have time to get WA Boaters Safety Card).

7.       Assist with farm research and development projects.

Qualifications:

·         Individuals must be able to work flexible hours including weekends to accommodate the tide schedule.

·         Enjoy working outside in the Puget Sound year-round.

·         Have a knowledge and interest in shellfish cultivation.

·         This is an active job and applicants should be able to lift 40 pounds without difficulty and be able to work in a physically challenging environment.

·         Must have good communication skills.

·         Applicants must also have a valid driver’s license and qualify to drive a company vehicle.

Wage: $15.00 / hr., opportunities to earn production bonuses and $200 / month housing stipend through the duration of the internship.
