We are searching for a creative change agent to lead a team of high performing staff in leveraging the growth of emerging mobility services and technologies to improve access to opportunities in King County. This individual will lead the Innovative Mobility Program (a part of Metro’s Research & Innovation Team) which is helping Metro transition to becoming a mobility agency by developing research, analysis, and services intended to complement the fixed route network and ensure a seamless, integrated network of options for customers. As Innovative Mobility Program Lead, you will work with the team to develop partnerships with the private sector that advance Metro’s goals of equity, safety, and sustainability. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead Innovative Mobility team, providing support and supervision, work load management and staff development
  • Identify key initiatives for the Innovative Mobility team, with a focus on developing new programs, services and products to leverage emerging mobility services and technology
  • Develop innovative mobility partnerships with the public and private sector to enhance and supplement Metro’s suite of mobility services
  • Support Innovative Mobility staff career development and empowerment
  • Coordinate with other work groups and the private sector to leverage opportunities and enhance overall effectiveness of programs
  • Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, customers, and clients
  • Participate in section budget development related to the Innovative Mobility program
  • Participate in overall Research & Innovation strategic work planning and group wide activities
  • Represent the Innovative Mobility Program in a wide range of settings including inter-agency collaborations, project meetings, and professional conferences
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and sustainability. Promote an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment and support diversity and inclusion goals

About Research & Innovation 
Research & Innovation develops customer research and market analysis to chart Metro’s customer strategy for growing ridership, increasing equity, and building new mobility markets. In addition, Research & Innovation advances the integration of new services and systems to augment Metro’s fixed route network and maximize the public’s ability to connect with Metro services.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsMinimum Qualifications

  • Experience in new or innovative mobility services or technologies, transportation demand management, land use, environmental planning or related field
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build and lead work teams of highly skilled professionals, and the ability to manage and resolve issues
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse workload to accomplish tasks on defined timelines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with corporate, agency, or jurisdiction leadership including elected officials
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and successfully with a diverse group of individuals from a variety of different positions and backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and stakeholders to develop partnerships, negotiate agreements and pursue opportunities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, economics, transportation, sociology, environmental science, technology or related field
  • Experience with mobility trends and disruptive technologies
  • Experience with developing shared mobility services including flexible, on-demand transit
  • Experience with mobility-as-a-service or integrated transportation technology platforms
  • Experience in program and project evaluation

Necessary Special Requirements
A valid Washington State driver’s license within thirty days after hire, or the ability to travel throughout the county in a timely manner, is required.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is therefore not eligible for overtime pay. Work schedule is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. Work outside of the normal work day is required periodically.
