General Summary

This is a full-time, at will position serving the citizens of Jackson County as a staff member of the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District (District). This position is a source of advice, consultation, and planning for the public on agricultural resource issues.

This position provides agricultural related technical assistance by conducting site visits and helping landowners and land managers develop plans, find funding, and implements projects for the ecological and economic benefit of individuals and the community.

  • Provides professional technical assistance to District clients and partners, regarding agricultural resource concerns related to soil and water and conducts site visits and develops farm and/or ranch conservation plans for District clients.
  • Assists clients, partners, and the District with grant writing, management, and reporting.
  • Assists the District with providing relevant educational programs to the public. Including teaching classes, tabling at events, and creating demonstrations and handouts.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and interact with members of the public

Position Requirements:

  • Highly productive, self-starter, with a desire to provide agricultural resource stewardship opportunities to the general public, agencies, and organizations within the District’s boundaries.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in natural sciences, natural resource management, agriculture sciences, agricultural business, crop science, soil science, or related discipline.
  • Be proficient in modern communication and data technology and software including ESRI ArcMap, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
  • Have exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of SWCD’s, watershed councils, and state and federal organizations pertaining to management of Oregon’s natural resources.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to work with private landowners and partners to complete projects.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time on agricultural terrain and around livestock. Ability to lift field equipment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Pass a background test including a drug test.
  • A valid Oregon driver’s license is required.

Benefits

Starting Pay: $42,000 (negotiable)

Health Insurance Stipend: $700/month

Retirement:  Automatic contribution of 3%, maximum match contribution of 7%

Training Opportunities: Trainings paid for by the District

Leave Time: Vacation and sick leave commiserate with time in service

Starting date – Anticipated November 18, 2019 – negotiable following selection
