Responsibilities
The Planning and Compliance Program Manager leads and coordinates park planning efforts and environmental compliance actions to facilitate the work of all park Divisions, and helps ensure the protection of park resources. The position is responsible for the preparation of compliance documents related to park planning, operations, infrastructure maintenance and development, resource management and restoration, and rights of way – specifically those requiring analyses or permitting under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Wilderness Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act and other local, state and federal laws and regulations.
The Planning and Compliance Program Manager is responsible for advising the park’s leaders and managers regarding compliance requirements associated with park operations. The incumbent develops, administers, tracks, oversees and completes the implementation of these compliance programs. The incumbent coordinates responses to projects proposed by park partners and external agencies and represents the National Park Service in partner and stakeholder meetings, some of which may be controversial in nature. This position reports to the Chief of Natural and Cultural Resources, Mount Rainier National Park and supervises an Outdoor Recreation Planner.
