As the Geographic Information Officer (GIO) you will be responsible for the strategic advancement of geographic data sharing, the development and support of enterprise-wide GIS initiatives, and coordination with all levels of government in the growth and expansion of Oregon’s spatial data library and development of a Geographic Information Hub within the State. Working in collaboration with the State’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Data Officer, you will also be responsible for contributing to the State’s Data Strategy and in advancing the goals of the OSCIO with regards to geographic information systems and geospatial data. In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Data Officer, in addition to other government executives in coordinating and collaborating on GIS efforts.

With the passage of HB 2906 (2017), the GIO is accountable for strengthening and furthering government GIS data sharing, stewardship of spatial data, and coordination of large-scale enterprise efforts related to GIS, in addition to participating in any local, regional, or national efforts related to geographic information systems or the management of geographic information.  This position will lead the development and future strategic growth of the Geographic Information Hub and drive the adoption of new technologies related to geospatial data.

The GIO should have recent experience with emerging GIS technologies, possess extensive experience in program and project management, and be capable of coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary stakeholder groups.  The GIO should be capable of exercising appropriate judgment and acting as the primary advisor to the CIO and CDO on all matters related to geospatial information through proactive communication and coordination of effort.

What We Are Looking For?

We are looking for a collaborative professional with five or more years Geographic Information Systems experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
