The Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District is hiring an Education and Outreach Specialist to join the Conservation Education Program. The Education & Outreach Specialist organizes and implements outreach efforts and conservation education programs to promote the District’s programs and projects and to increase public awareness and understanding of natural resource issues. This employee is responsible for coordination and delivery of workshops, development and implementation of outreach initiatives, and creation of educational and outreach materials. This employee works cooperatively with other TSWCD programs and partner organizations to identify education and outreach needs and opportunities. The person in this position is responsible for accurately representing the District and effectively communicating its programs and services to partners and the public. This position reports to the Conservation Education Program Manager.

Major Work Categories Include:

Educational Workshops & Events

  • Coordinate and implement education/outreach events and workshops to improve understanding of natural resource conservation throughout the Washington County community;
  • Promote education events to general public and specific audiences using a variety of outreach methods (media, mailings, community forums, partner meetings);
  • Complete regular reporting about education/outreach events;
  • Participate in community outreach events to educate the broader community about the District and natural resource topics.

Communications & Outreach

  • Develop and implement community outreach plans specific to District projects and natural resource topics; work closely with District staff to identify topics or projects that need concentrated community outreach; develop plans to communicate the topic to intended audiences; identify methods to reach and engage the Washington County community around natural resource issues and conservation projects;
  • Contribute content to District-wide communication efforts, including social media, website, quarterly newsletter, annual reports;
  • Assist in outreach efforts with new and existing partners (e.g. non-profit organizations, local government entities).

Education & Outreach Materials

  • Develop educational materials (fact sheets, presentations, outreach activities) to communicate about natural resource topics;
  • Help create visual communication aids, including maps, photographs, and videos to highlight District programs and projects.
