OMSI is seeking multiple Camp Cooks who will be responsible for planning meals, buying food, and cooking for OMSI outdoor programs. This position requires living on-site during the spring and fall at one of OMSI’s 3 outdoor schools: Hancock Field Station, Pacific Marine Science School, or Santiam Science School. In summer, cooks prepare meals for week-long residential camps, which may include traveling with the program.

Ideal cook candidates are flexible, able to work within a budget, like to cook from scratch, and enjoy working in a close knit community environment. This position requires the ability to prepare healthy, tasty meals for a variety of ages and group sizes. Cooks are responsible for ordering and shopping for food, cooking breakfasts and dinners, prepping for sack lunches, and cleaning all dishes used in the preparation of meals. Familiarity with vegetarian, nut free, gluten free and lactose free cooking is a must, as well as adaptability for other food allergies. The cook must have at least a high school diploma and valid driver’s license. Culinary school or experience working in a residential education program is preferred.

Beginning cooks typically earn $60 per day, with benefits. Room and board provided during programming.
