SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The membership coordinator is responsible for the development and retention of the members of Friends of the Columbia Gorge. In partnership with the development manager strives to strengthen both the number of members and the revenue generated by the membership base. Directs and administers all aspects of acquisition, retention, upgrading, and stewardship of members who give less than $1,000 annually. The coordinator works with individuals and businesses through a variety of channels including: mail, email, website, social media, giving portals, online giving days, events, and in-person meetings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Writes and implements creative and persuasive communications to steward current members, along with multi-channel renewal, special, and prospect appeals
- Develops and implements creative ideas for upgrading members to higher giving levels and enrolling donors in our Best Friends recurring donation program
- Supports Philanthropy by writing newsletter articles, appeals, emails, and general communications to giving circle donors
- Leverages events to maximize acquisition and retention of members
- Oversees organizational efforts for local, regional and national giving days, (Willamette Week Give Guide annual campaign, GiveMore24!, GiveBIG Washington)
- Uses CRM to capture all donor and prospect information, track, and report fundraising progress along with ensuring accuracy of all gift entry working with development and database coordinator
- Writes meaningful thank you letters for gifts
- In partnership with the digital content specialist, creates and implements social media fundraising campaigns
- Manages direct mail vendors
- Assist philanthropy team in support of Friends’ diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Works with public engagement and advocacy teams to convert volunteers and activists to members
- Works with community engagement specialist to reach new audiences and engage members more deeply in our work
- Analyzes effectiveness of various fundraising methods and messages and adapts future appeals accordingly
- Supports the philanthropy team to coordinate and implement events of varying size
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- 2-4 years of fundraising experience
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Creative marketing skills
- Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills with ability to function independently and as a member of a team
- Adaptive and flexible with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
- Great attention to detail
- Strong people skills when interacting with the public
- Sensitivity to confidential material
- Knowledge of current fundraising principles and practices
- Ability to work outside of standard office hours to participate in meetings and events
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM
- Proficiency in Mail Chimp or other marketing automation platform
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary range is $18 – $20 hourly, commensurate with experience and education. Excellent benefits include generous vacation time and holidays, generous health insurance for employee and dependents along with an employer matched retirement plan.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position requires sitting or standing at a desk, using a computer, and talking on the phone or in person. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
