Tilth Producers of Washington is a statewide membership organization whose mission is to promote ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equitable farming practices that improve the health of our communities and natural environment. Tilth Producers serves its members through farmer education programs and advocacy on agricultural policy and legislative issues. Members are organic and sustainable farmers, industry stakeholders, farm suppliers, educators, researchers, resource organizations and consumers.

JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director is responsible for implementing the mission of Tilth Producers and maintaining the vitality of the organization. The Executive Director oversees all activities and programs including Financial Management, Human Resources, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Program Development, Communications, and Board Development.

The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and staff to implement the objectives of the organization as outlined in the Strategic Plan. A strong working Board of Directors determines organizational directions and assists with implementing programs. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is supervised by a member of the Board’s Executive Committee.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget and Finance: Works with the Board to develop an annual budget and is responsible for making sure that the organization operates within it.  Develops and maintain sound financial practices.  Responsible for organizational growth and development of sustainable funding. Raises funds through grants, donor programs, program fees and other methods. Work with Board and staff to implement an individual donor campaign. Works with the Board to implement sound investment strategies.

Personnel: Supervises, hires and manages performance of Program Director, Program Assistant and other staff as necessary. Works with current staff and creates a positive work environment and team culture.   Responsible for all human resources programs and plans, including personnel development.

Administration: Manages internal operations and program planning and delivery. Assures timely compliance of administrative functions. Maintains official records and documents and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Communications: Communicates regularly with the Board on the condition of the organization and its programs. Develops member involvement at all levels. Establishes and maintains positive working relations with other organizations. Represents Tilth Producers at public events or finds appropriate representatives as needed.

Technology: Assesses needs and identifies priorities for improvement in software, hardware and other appropriate uses of technology.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory position with similar levels of responsibility.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a management position.
  • Knowledgeable of legal and financial requirements for non-profit organizations.
  • Proven success in fund development including individual and corporate giving, grant writing.
  • Strong management and administrative skills.
  • Experience in finance and budgeting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage office infrastructure and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all types of people.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of Tilth Producers.
  • Resourceful in order to maximize human, financial and material resources.
  • Proven track record in identifying and solving complex problems.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-profit experience
Knowledge of organic farming practices
Familiarity with NW sustainable food system organizations
Knowledge of social media and website development including Word Press
Valid driver’s license and car
