Army Corps of Engineers – Natural Resources Wildlife Field Assistant
Position Summary:
Summer 2012 – The Army Corps of Engineers is currently recruiting for a position that will support natural
resources management at Army Corps Lands in the Willamette Valley Region. This person will primarily
assist with monitoring and management of wildlife at Hill’s Creek reservoir near Oakridge, Oregon.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major duties are related to monitoring and management of wildlife resources and habitat. Duties may
also include assistance with prairie restoration, plant inventories, regular watering of restoration
outplantings, data entry and writing reports. The individual will coordinate closely with the Army Corps
natural resources managers and biological staff but after an initial training period will work independently.
Required Qualifications:
• Ability to work outdoors in remote settings during inclement weather on uneven ground
• Willingness to work independently in an outdoor setting
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
• Experience reading maps, attention to detail, good communication skills, and a positive attitude
• Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word
• Current Driver’s license and ability to pass a defensive driving test
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Pacific Northwest natural resources, wildlife and plants
• Coursework in biology and strong interest in biology and conservation
• Previous experience using GPS units and ArcView GIS
Duty location:
Will report daily to work site at Hill’s Creek Lake near Oakridge, Oregon. Incumbent must arrange own
transportation to the field site. Public transportation opportunities are limited.
Terms of Employment:
One AmeriCorps member will serve a term of service (length dependant on commitment of hours),
starting by May 23rd. Starting date, hours and times negotiable. Preferred work schedule will be five
days per week, four hours per day, for a minimum of 300 hours.
Program Benefits:
$2,565 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis, a $1,175 education award upon completion of the
300 hours of service and/or position requirements. The living allowance and education award are
taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own housing and food, and transportation to the
field site. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.

Position Summary:
Summer 2012 – The Army Corps of Engineers is currently recruiting for a position that will support botany, natural
resources and wildlife habitat management and restoration at Army Corps Lands in the Willamette Valley Region. This
person will assist with management of natural resources at the 13 reservoirs in the Willamette Valley Region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major duties are related to monitoring and management of plants and wildlife habitat, including habitat restoration
projects. Duties may include native plant propagation, regular watering of restoration outplantings, prairie restoration,
plant inventories, assistance with wildlife surveys, data entry and writing reports. The individual will coordinate closely
with the Army Corps natural resources managers and biological staff but after an initial training period will often work
independently.

• Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground

2012. Starting date, hours and times is negotiable. Time commitment is a minimum of 450 hours from June to
August 2012.
