Entry-Level Water Resources Engineer

(0 to 3 years of experience)

 

Our Water Resources jobs provide you with an opportunity to work on exciting projects which could include drainage, water quality, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stream and ecosystem restoration, and fisheries engineering elements. As a contributing member of a project team, you will perform a variety of tasks requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. You will have the opportunity to utilize your technical skills as well as collaborate with our regional water resources engineering staff to support various projects within water resources and also within our drinking water and wastewater engineering practices.

You should be a self-motivated professional with a Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and a goal of obtaining your Professional Engineer’s license. Preferable educational or internship experience could include hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, field work including construction site experience, preparing permitting applications, preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and preparation of reports and presentations. You should have excellent oral and written communications, team-oriented work practices, strong data analysis skills, technical problem solving ability, organizational skills, multitasking ability and excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite) as well as a desire to grow both personally and professionally with this engineering opportunity. Most importantly, you should have a passion for water resources engineering and ecosystem management in both the natural and built environments.

Water Resources Task Manager

(>3 years of experience)

 

The challenge? Help restore and sustain the Pacific Northwest’s water resources and ecosystems in both the natural and built environments. We are seeking a candidate who has an understanding of the ecology, political/social environment, and culture of the Puget Sound region of Washington State and how these impact implementation of civil infrastructure and ecosystem restoration projects. Our preferred candidate will have a passion for water resources and ecosystem management and will aggressively create and innovative on our water resources projects throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Project work may include, depending on qualifications and experience:

  • Low impact development planning and design
  • Conventional drainage planning and design
  • Ecosystems and stream restoration planning and design
  • Permitting assistance
  • Wetlands delineation
  • Field work including construction site visits
  • Task and project management

You should be a self-motivated professional with a Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or equivalent degree in a related water resources discipline such as Ecology, Landscape Architecture, Geomorphology, or Urban Design, having a minimum of three years experience. You should have excellent oral and written communications, self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, ability to work independently, strong data analysis skills, technical problem solving ability, organizational skills, multitasking ability and excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite) as well as a desire to grow both personally and professionally with this opportunity.   An interest in environmental, social, and financial sustainability is a plus.  Most importantly, you should have a passion for water resources engineering and ecosystem management in both the natural and built environments and an interest in helping us grow our water resources practice in the Pacific Northwest.

  • 3 or more years of experience in the water resources field.

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering or equivalent degree in a related water resources discipline.
  • Experience working in the water resources field within the Puget Sound region.
  • Experience performing water resources project planning (permitting, studies) and project design (preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates) tasks.
  • Understanding of Washington State permitting requirements for ecosystem, culvert, stormwater, and mitigation projects.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate with clients, stakeholders, and the public.
  • GIS experience on water resources applications .
  • Prior construction knowledge and experience.
  • License or certification relevant to qualifications and experience, if applicable (for example, Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training, Certified Floodplain Manager, Professional Wetlands Scientist).
