The Conservation and Land Management Internship Program seeks qualified
college graduates for five month internships beginning ASAP / late July or
early August. Five interns will be hired and to work within the Twin Falls /
Shoshone, Idaho area (Bureau of Land Management).

Projects interns will work on include:

Interns will mainly be performing Sage grouse habitat assessments, data
collection of Long Term Trend Sites, Inventory for Sensitive plant species,
Vegetation cover transects, Monitoring of riparian areas, Monitoring
Ferruginous Hawk nests and monitoring of shrub survival after post fire
rehab.

The interns will be working in crews of 2 or more and will be collecting
field data across the BLM portion of the Craters of the Moon National
Monument and/or BLM lands. The data collected will be mostly sage-grouse
habitat information and includes metrics such as gap intercept, belt
transects, and point intercept. Use-pattern mapping and other incidental
data needs, such as noxious weed population inventories, will also be
collected, compiled, and documented. End of season work will include
long-term trend monitoring and riparian photo points.

Successful applicants must have knowledge of plant biology/botany, with the
ability to identify plants to the species level using appropriate botany
manuals and keys, such as “Flora of the Pacific Northwest”.  Knowledge of
sagebrush steppe biome vegetation is a plus, but that knowledge may also be
gained while on the job. Ability to identify songbirds by site would be a
bonus. Experience with the following is preferred: monitoring/inventorying;
rare, threatened and endangered species; invasive species; sage
brush/pinonjuniper habitat; riparian habitats; herbarium voucher collection;
population ecology; applied ecology and related areas.

Internship responsibilities require outside work involving walking, bending,
climbing hills, lifting and carrying various materials or supplies which are
occasionally heavy.
