The Green Building Policy Intern will support USGBC’s policy database by assisting in the technical conversion of policy data to a new database, ensuring the accuracy of existing data and researching additional green building policies throughout the country. This policy data is a vital resource to USGBC’s federal, state and local advocacy efforts. The Green Building Policy Internship experience is intended to impart valuable research skills and knowledge of policy making at all levels of government.

The learning objectives of this internship include:

  • Demonstrating experience in non-profit workplace and sector
  • Clearly expressing concepts of sustainability and green building advocacy
  • More fully understanding the benefits of green building and operations practices
  • Demonstrating practical experience in structuring research results in a format and style that is accessible to a general audience
  • Synthesizing project data, surveys and qualitative data into a cohesive picture of the green building movement

Internship Details Include:

  • Assisting in the conversion of policy data to new database
  • Ensuring the accuracy of existing policy data
  • Researching new green building policies at all levels of government
  • Developing materials and resources that communicate successful green building policies
  • Categorizing types of green building policies as models for other communities

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences:

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from graduate or undergraduate program of study
  • Major or specialization in Environmental Studies, Politics, Government, Law, Architecture or Engineering highly preferred
  • Knowledge of LEED Green Building Rating System highly preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • Previous work experience in team/office setting preferred

Other Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in Microsoft Office required, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent communication and writing skills required
  • Experience in Adobe Suite preferred, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Web management and HTML experience highly preferred
  • Database management experience highly preferred
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and software
  • Commitment to USGBC mission
