Job Opportunity: Biological Science Technician for Bureau of Land Management (Eugene, OR)

Assigned to the Upper Willamette Resource Area within the Eugene District, the incumbent assists the area biologist with wildlife surveys and habitat assessments associated with various resource management activities. The incumbent conducts pre-project clearance surveys and monitors known wildlife populations and habitats associated with special status species, such as spotted owls. The incumbent is also responsible for data collection, quality and organization. The incumbent is expected to work and communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.

This position frequently requires working alone in remote forest areas and navigating over mountainous terrain. Orienteering skills, including the use of maps, compass and handheld GPS units are essential to field data collection. The work is physically strenuous and involves working in rain snow and heat. The work also involves traversing steep, brushy slopes which may include poison oak. The incumbent works varying time schedules including day, night or early morning. The incumbent will have to drive on rough, steep, winding and narrow forest roads.
