Greenbelt Land Trust has an immediate PAID opportunity (internship or tentatively, short-term position) for a qualified student with GIS background.  We are hoping to interview candidates by the end of this week for a position that would run for about one month, between now and November 30th . This would be an exciting opportunity for an upper division undergrad or graduate student in geosciences, earth or life sciences, the GIS certificate programs, or related fields to apply their digitizing skills to a real-life, highly local, conservation-focused project.

The successful candidate would be proficient with basic tasks in ArcGIS, able (or willing to learn learn) to quickly georeference images, and be a mature self-starter with excellent communication skills.  The student would work with ArcGIS to digitize 16 images each containing approximately 2-10 polygons (some adjacent) representing features on Bald Hill Farm. They would then create a corresponding attribute table for numbered parcels, and make one or two basic maps with the newly digitized data. Orientation and training would be provided by our stewardship program manager.

We estimate that it would take someone with digitizing experience 15-30 hours do this project. Pay would be $10/hour to the qualified candidate in lieu or addition to academic credit.  We’d be interested in offering the opportunity as an academic internship if it would be possible for the student to earn credit through OSU, in this term or retroactively in a future term. If students express interest in this project, the student, Greenbelt staff and the advisor should communicate to determine credit options.

Please contact me for additional details on the position, or to apply by sending a resume with 2 references ( at least one GIS-related), CV with GIS coursework, and answers to the attached brief questionnaire. The position closes when filled or Friday October 24th at 5pm.

Questionnaire: GIS tech questions.
