Summary: Versar’s Environmental Services Group, Columbia Office has an immediate opening available for an experienced watershed scientist to assist the company in meeting clients’ needs in this expanding business area. Position duties may include any of the following: fieldwork, field team leadership, field equipment management, task management, writing assignments, data compilation, and data quality control.
Responsibilities:
Position Description: The successful applicant will be familiar with and be able to meet clients’ needs in several of the following tasks:

  • Storm runoff monitoring
  • Stream geomorphic surveys
  • Stream benthic surveys
  • Stream fish surveys
  • Illicit discharge detection and elimination
  • Upland watershed assessments using Center for Watershed Protection methods
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science (or equivalent) is required.

Experience & Skills Needed:

  • Electronic flow monitoring
  • Automated sampling using ISCO equipment
  • Stream velocity measurements using flowmeter and wading rod
  • Fluvial geomorphic assessment (Rosgen or equivalent training is preferred)
  • Benthic sampling using methods comparable to Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS)
  • Fish sampling using backpack electroshocker
  • ArcGIS
  • Microsoft Office
  • Work evenings and weekends as wet weather monitoring conditions warrant
  • Flexibility to work with a variety of staff, projects, and task timelines
  • Responsible and detail-oriented
