Lilli

My name is Lillian (Lilli) and I’m currently a Junior at The Evergreen State College. My emphasis is in Human Rights and Management, with a specific interest in Human Trafficking. During my time here, I have explored these areas through volunteering in Nepal, interning with Washington Hospitality Association and more! Originally, I am from Chico, CA where I graduated from an arts and sciences high school, and worked as a contemporary choreographer for 5 Years before moving to Olympia. I am also a crazy cat lady vegan who is equally as passionate about animal rights as human rights.

Katie

My name is Katie (she/her) and I’m in my senior year here at Evergreen. I’m originally from Virginia but growing up as a military kid has allowed me to live all over the United States as well overseas. I have studied a few subjects here including European history, literature, sustainable agriculture, as well as business and marketing. My studies have all culminated into a focus on sustainable business, specifically sustainable fashion and textiles. The most important part of my education so far has been the ability to conduct independent research for credit, which I have been able to incorporate into an internship with a sustainable fashion company abroad in Ireland as well as an independent learning contract on the role of textile crafts in small-scale economies. I’ve loved every moment of my education at Evergreen and am happy to share how the school has encouraged me to love to learn.

Gail

My name’s Gail, I’m 20 years old, and am currently a junior here at Evergreen. I’m originally from a small town outside of Philadelphia, PA and moved out here right after graduating high school to attend college. I use she/her pronouns and currently live in a house off-campus, though I did live on campus for my freshman year at Evergreen so I’ve experienced both. My main focus during my time at Evergreen has been centered on journalism and learning different forms of storytelling as I hope to go into photojournalism after I graduate. I’m currently enrolled in a program entitled “Greece and Italy: An Artistic and Literary Odyssey” that deals with Ancient Art History during the Renaissance Era and beforehand. This program also spends half the time in individual study in which the students get to choose to study either black and white film photography, drawing, or studying Ancient Greek language; I’ve been studying the photo portion of this class. I will be studying for six weeks in Greece and Italy in the spring with my class.

Ray

Hey there! I’m Ray, 27, my pronouns are they/them/he/him and I’m a junior transfer student here at The Evergreen State College! Originally I’m from a small town in Washington called Port Angeles, but now I live here on campus in Olympia in one of the themed student apartments called Rainbow Fort, which is for students who identify as LGBTQAI+ and/or are allies of the community. My main emphases are Asian and Asian/American studies, documentary work and also disability studies, which I am an advocate for, being disabled myself. In fact, the program I’m in this quarter is called “Student Originated Studies: Culture, Community and Disability” and is the first disabilities studies program here at Evergreen and I can’t wait for there to be more! One of my favorite things about being here at Evergreen is all the student clubs, especially the nerdy ones. On my first visit here, I couldn’t stop geeking out about the anime themed club called The Giant Robot Appreciation Society, since I really, really love giant anime robots or mecha. And at the same time, to live on a gorgeous campus that I can’t wait to start photographing with all of the cherry blossoms out. But one of the best things about living, learning and working here at Evergreen is that even with my disability, the faculty, services and student community here have made it possible for me to live independently, and succeed and grow as a student and a person.

Hannah

My name is Hannah Allen-Young and I am originally from Santa Cruz CA. Here at Evergreen I am studying a little bit of everything with an emphasis on public health and political economy. When I am not in class I enjoy: rock climbing, hiking, eating good food, listening to music, and going on adventures.

Katrina

My name is Katrina, I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis of Pre-Med. My dad was in the military so I have lived all over the country, but have lived in Washington the longest and currently live in Lacey, WA with my S.O. and two guinea pigs. I graduated with an AA in dental assisting and was a dental assistant for four years. I decided to return to school last year and have never been happier. I would like to become a medical examiner and do my residency in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Lee

My name is Lee and I originally hail from El Paso, TX. I am a 22 year old Senior at Evergreen who studies Religion and History. In my time, I have been a Resident Assistant on campus in the freshman dorms, helped our Sheep Club raise cute little lambs, and gone to Ireland with Professor Sean Williams. I have dipped my toes into music, archaeology, sailing, and curatorial studies at Evergreen (subjects I never thought I would study!) and certainly I’ve never been bored.

Spencer

My name is Spencer, I am 20 years old and I am in my junior year at The Evergreen State College. I was born in Vancouver, WA which is about an hour and a half south of Olympia, but I have lived all throughout the Pacific Northwest in my life. I have taken an interest in studying political science, indigenous history and culture, and music. I love that Evergreen has allowed me to study each of these subjects of interest, while still maintaining a good balance on how much I learn in each topic.  In my free time, I love doing pretty much anything that has to do with the outdoors or music and just being around good people in general.

Allie

I’m Allie and I’m a senior at The Evergreen State College. I’m originally from Minnesota. I transferred to Evergreen September 2017. When I came to Evergreen, I knew I wanted to take the “Practices of Organic Farming” (POF) program. I started out studying American history, political economy, and studio art. For me, those programs always intersected with food justice, which ended up being the catalyst for jumping head first into sustainable agriculture by taking POF. I’ve also done two internships, one at a flower farm in Mount Vernon, WA and one at a flower farm in East Olympia. My goal is to eventually have my own farm back in Minnesota. The organic farming community at Evergreen and the Pacific Northwest as a whole are so welcoming and the networks POF opens up are astounding. So many farmers in this area have either taken some iteration of the program or view it in the highest regards. I’m really glad I came to Evergreen because of how the interdisciplinary programs allow for really deep, concentrated areas of study and because of the doors the POF program has opened for me in terms of jobs, contacts, and friends. I really wouldn’t be where I am today without Evergreen and the Organic Farm on campus.

Emily

Hi, my name is Emily (she/her). I grew up in Oakland, CA, then moved to Olympia fresh out of high school about three years ago. Realizing that many of my AP credits transferred over, I planned to graduate early, so I’m now a senior looking to graduate this Spring. I’ve studied a wide array of subjects, including physiology and neurology, anthropology and psychology, studio arts and creative writing, and so on! I’m now focusing on cultural and art studies with an interest in traveling and art therapy. Outside of the Evergreen-sphere, I also dance, write poetry, color, watch Hulu, and hang out with friends.

Thea

Hello! I come from China and am now a senior student. I was an exchange and a transfer student at Evergreen. My dream and passion is to connect with people to shape the future of learning through research, leadership, and entrepreneurship. I appreciate my education in Evergreen because it taught me to think and act critically and reflectively when I form understandings of myself and the world around me; it has also taught me to be daring to take on tasks that I am passionate about, however challenging it might be–great learning comes from the process of doing. Recently I focus my time to develop personal leadership, and research global trends of education innovation.
