EUGENE, Ore. – Continuing to outdo herself each week, junior Karissa Carlson (Pateros, Wash.) used yet another school record performance to earn herself a provisional qualifying mark in the 800m run on Friday afternoon at the Oregon Relays at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Carlson took the lead midway through the race and was able to hold off a mostly NCAA Division I field by about five meters for the remainder as she posted a time of 2:15.83 to break her school record from last week by over a second, placing first in the second heat.  Overall, she placed fourth but was the highest finishing runner from outside of the state of Oregon.

Her time, which was under the NAIA B-Cut of 2:16.00, currently ranks her 22nd on the NAIA performance list, as of April 22.  She will have a few more chances to better her mark this season, beginning next weekend at the Saint Martin’s Invitational in nearby Lacey, Wash.
