Heritage Park, a Bustling Hotspot
Upon arriving at my place of inquiry, I was struck by how many people were coming and going. When I returned to the area for my first official observation session, it was a sunny Saturday and the park was again abuzz with life. Heritage Park seems to be an important recreational place for the locals. There were people running, teaching their children to ride bikes, picnicking, walking dogs, and reading in the sun. On the other side of Fourth and Fifth Avenue, there was a boardwalk that also attracted a variety of people. A couple of women ate ice cream cones and took pictures of themselves in front of the sound. A girl sat on a bench and looked out at the water. A homeless woman vomited in the landscaping of the Bayview grocery store, to the east of the boardwalk, as a homeless man looked on. This to me was a really stark visual of the different people who inhabited this place and showed me its importance. People come to the area for leisure, to be active and keep healthy, and to have somewhere to exist when they have nowhere else. To many, this area is home.

I really like your hand-drawn map. It’s so authentic and adds a very charming feel to your post. Thank you for your vibrant visuals! I think it would be really cool if you also included more observations of your “other” senses in your posts– what does it smell like? Was it warm, breezy? What sounds were there? I’ve seen a little bit of this park in my wanderings, but I would love to become more familiar with the way *you* experience this place.
I enjoy your observations of the people in your surroundings. I particularly like the bit about the man watching a stranger puking. The hand-drawn map adds a really nice personal touch and helps the reader get a better idea of your location
