In the 1920s, there was a civil war in Russia. It started November 7, 1917 until June 16, 1923. There were three groups involved: the Red army, the White army, and the Green army. The Red Army represented the Bolsheviks who supported Lenin’s socialism. The White Army supported monarchy and capitalism. Then there were some Green armies that fought against both the Red and White. It didn’t work out, so some soldiers escaped to China. Russians would knit hats, scarves, socks, etc. While in China, some of the people there admired the make of these Russian soldier’s hats. Knowlege was shared and over time, China developed bamboo knitting needles instead of the regular metal needles. Personally, I am so grateful for bamboo needles. They are soft to the touch and breeze through the garment with a hush. In comparison, metal needles become sticky from hand sweat and squeak sometimes when stitches are pushed up the needle.
