Knitting may be an old craft, but Amigurumi is a new type of yarn creation developed in Japan. Internet encouraged the dolls in popular culture by sharing images of these adorable creatures. They are usually purchased for aesthetic purposes and follow the Japanese “kawaii” and “chibi” personality. When writing my “Paper” post on masculinity, I remember my mother’s friend named Mark who crocheted animals. His dolls were much larger than those of Amigurumi, but he was the one who gifted my mother a book on the subject and is literally the only reason I know of them. Thanks to Etsy, the crafting website, most amigurumi are purchased through this medium.
