Wilson Triple-Double Leads No. 20 Yotes over Geoducks, 115-78

OLYMPIA, Wash. – College of Idaho guard Josh Wilson put up the Yotes’ first triple-double of the millennium as 20th-ranked C of I earned a 115-78 win over the Evergreen Geoducks in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball contest on Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

The Yotes (10-4, 1-1 CCC) couldn’t be stopped early as the Geoducks (1-6, 0-2 CCC) found themselves down by 10 just a little over three minutes into the game.  The C of I lead hit 20 with 8:13 left in the first half as Taylor Pruett hit a jumper to put the lead at 40-20.  The advantage would be 63-39 heading into the halftime break.

College of Idaho’s high-tempo offense continued to work in the second half as the Yotes continued to pull away.  Seven different players would finish in double-digits for C of I as they earned the 115-78 win, their seventh straight over the Geoducks.

Evergreen was led by 14 points each from Marc Taylor (Boise, Idaho/Skyview HS/Edmonds CC) and Cameron Faison (Atlanta, Ga./Foster HS/West Valley College).  Kyle Calhoun (Seattle, Wash./Hazen HS/Marshalltown CC) added 13 points while KJ Hong (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur HS/Shoreline CC) added 12 off the bench.

College of Idaho was led by 19 points from Pruett.  Joe Vaz came off the bench to put up 15 points and nine rebounds.  Demetrius Perkins added 14 points while Wilson, Sydney Donaldson and Andrew Bruce each chalked up 13 points in the win.  Wilson added 11 assists and 10 rebounds to earn the triple-double.

The Geoducks will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Puget Sound in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader.  Tip with the Loggers is set for 8:00 p.m. at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

Yotes Nip Geoducks, 62-59

OLYMPIA, Wash. – With the game going down the final possession, the College of Idaho Yotes held on for a 62-59 win over the Evergreen Geoducks in a Cascade Conference women’s basketball game on Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

The Yotes (4-5, 1-1 CCC) scored the first points of the game on a three-ball by Aleah Lowbar but the Geoducks (4-4, 0-2 CCC) battled back and the two teams continued to trade baskets with neither team leading by more than four points.  Evergreen would hold a slight lead heading into the break, up 27-25.

In the second half, Evergreen pushed the lead to eight on a jumper by Sadee Jones (Belfair, Wash./North Mason HS) with 12:58 left on the clock.  College of Idaho answered back with a 9-0 run on three straight three-pointers to take a one point lead and the Yotes would control the game the rest of the way.

After the Yotes pushed the lead to eight with 3:43 left on the clock, the Geoducks fought back to get within three on a three-ball by Jessica Denmon (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS/Skagit Valley CC) with 57 seconds left.  The Geoducks had a chance to tie it as time expired but the shot by Randi Boseman (New Orleans, La./Newport HS) didn’t fall as C of I escaped with the 62-59 win.

Evergreen was led by 22 points off the bench from Denmon.  Jones finished with 10 points on the night while Sammi Clark (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS/Edmonds CC) led all players with 12 rebounds on the night.  The Goeducks shot 46.9% on the night, making 23-of-49 attempts on the night.

College of Idaho was led by 23 points from Erica Martinez.  Chakala Carthen added 13 points in the win while Dayna Drage put up 10 points on the night.  The Yotes made nine baskets from behind the arc, compared with just five for the Geoducks.

Evergreen is back in action on Wednesday night when they host Puget Sound in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader.  Tip with the Loggers is set for 6:00 p.m. at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

Eastern Overpowers Evergreen, 73-54

OLYMPIA, Wash. – After going over six minutes without a field goal to start the game, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers finally found their stroke, earning a 73-54 win over the Evergreen Geoducks in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Friday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

The Geoducks (1-5, 0-1 CCC) came out sprinting, using a 10-1 run to open the game as Eastern Oregon (9-1, 1-0 CCC) didn’t hit their first field goal until the 13:48 mark in the opening half.  Unfortunately for Evergreen, once EOU found their shot, they kept hitting as the Mounties tied things up at 17-17 with 8:37 to go.  The EOU lead continued to grow, eventually hitting nine on a jumper by Craig Tucker with one second before halftime as Eastern took the 34-25 lead into the break.

Any shooting woes that Eastern may have had in the first half did not return in the second period as the Mounties continued to build the lead in the final half.  Eastern grabbed their biggest lead of the game with 1:09 left to play, using a free throw by Kevin Attila to go ahead by 21 at 71-50.

After a Geoduck three pointer by Jordan Rawls (Shoreline, Wash./Decatur HS/Peninsula CC) and a jumper by EOU’s Derek Maloney, Evergreen’s Charlie Holzman (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South HS) hit a free throw to score the final point of the game, giving Eastern Oregon the 73-54 win.

Evergreen was led by a game-high 22 points from Kyle Calhoun (Seattle, Wash./Hazen HS/Marshalltown CC).  Marc Taylor (Boise, Idaho/Skyview HS/Edmonds CC) was the next leading scorer for the Geoducks, putting up nine points and seven rebounds as Evergreen shot just 26.8% on the night, making 15-of-56 attempts.

Eastern Oregon was led by 17 points from Tony Eackles Jr.  Kyllian Wood added 14 points and 13 rebounds to earn the double-double.  Kalvin Johanson also earned the double-double, posting 12 points and 19 rebounds in the win.

The Geoducks will look to rebound on Saturday night when they host 20th-ranked College of Idaho.  Eastern Oregon will also be in action, traveling to Northwest in Kirkland, Wash.  Both games are set to tip at 7:30 p.m.

Mountaineers Power Past Geoducks, 92-76

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Brittney Newcomb went for 25 second-half points as the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers shot past the Evergreen Geoducks, 92-76, in a Cascade Conference women’s basketball game on Friday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.

The Mountaineers (8-3, 1-0 CCC) opened up the scoring on a jumper by Newcomb just 22 seconds in and EOU never trailed.  The lead grew to double-digits with 10:50 to go on a layup by Jeni Hoffert that put Eastern up 18-7. Evergreen (4-3, 0-1 CCC) battled back, pulling within three points on a three-pointer by Sammi Clark (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS/Edmonds CC) with 6:27 to go in the opening period but EOU pushed aheadlate, taking a 36-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Geoducks kept battling but Eastern was shooting lights out, making 20-of-27 second half attempts for 74.1%.  After keeping the differential in single digits for most of the half, the Mounties used one last late push to put the game away, winning 92-76.

Evergreen was led by 18 points and 15 rebounds from Brittany Gray (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge HS/Skagit Valley CC).  Clark added 17 while Sadee Jones (Belfair, Wash./North Mason HS) chipped in 15 points.  Jessica Denmon (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor HS/Skagit Valley CC) rounded out the Geoducks in double-digits with 13 points in the loss.

Eastern Oregon was led by 32 points from Newcomb.  Nicole Redd finished with 19 for EOU while Kassy Larson came off the bench for 12 points in the win.  Madeline Laan rounded out the Mounties in double-digits with 10 points on the night.  Eastern shot 60.0% on the night, making 33 of 55 attempts.

Evergreen returns to action on Saturday night when they play host to College of Idaho.  Tip with the Yotes is set for 5:30 p.m. at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia. Eastern will also be in action, traveling to Northwest in Kirkland, Wash.

Gray Named Red Lion Player of the Week

Gray, Brittany womens bball-1LA GRANDE, Ore. –  Evergreen’s Brittany Gray has been named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Gray, a junior from Bainbridge Island, Wash., led the Geoducks to a come-from-behind win at Pacific on Tuesday, putting up 29 points and 16 rebounds. In her first year playing for Evergreen after redshirting last season, she is averaging 14.3 ppg and 9.2 rpg.

The Geoducks open up Cascade Conference play on Friday night when they host Eastern Oregon.  Tip with the Mountaineers is set for 5:30 p.m. at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
