Evergreen Sweeps CCC Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After helping lead the Evergreen Geoducks to a 1-0 non-conference win over Whitworth on Saturday, seniors Jeff Roland (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS/South Puget Sound CC) and Collin Harlow (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita HS/Shoreline CC) have been named Red Lion Cascade Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Roland earned the offensive honors after scoring the game winner against the Pirates in the third minute of the match.  The goal was his second of the season and was enough to give the Geoducks their second victory of the year and propel them into conference play on a winning note.

Harlow was named defensive player of the week after doing his best impression of the brick wall.  The senior made eight saves against a talented Whitworth team, not allowing a goal as he earned his second shutout of the season.

Evergreen opens up Cascade Conference play on Tuesday evening when they host Warner Pacific.  First kick with the Knights is set for 5 p.m. at Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.

Geoducks Shuck Bucs, 1-0, in Non-Conference Finale

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Jeff Roland (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS/South Puget Sound CC) scored his second goal of the season in the third minute as the Evergreen Geoducks picked up a 1-0 win over the Whitworth Pirates in a neutral site men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Ore.

After Whitworth (2-1-0) was whistled offside to open the game, Roland took possession about 30 yards away and fired in the game winner past keeper Shane Nishioka-Healy to give the Geoducks (2-1-0) a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime and despite a 10-2 Pirate advantage on shots in the second half, Geoduck keeper Collin Harlow (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita HS/Shoreline CC) made six saves in the final 45 minutes to finish with eight for the day and collect the shutout.

The Geoducks will open up Cascade Conference play on Tuesday evening when they host Warner Pacific.  First kick with the Knights is set for 5 p.m. at Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
