RETC Internship Opportunity

The Regional Education and Training Center at Satsop is seeking a motivated graduate level student for a program development internship during the fall quarter of 2011.

The RETC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on workforce development.  The RETC advances the regional workforce by 1) developing the Satsop Campus into a training destination of choice 2) providing in-demand industry recognized training and 3) partnering in Strategic Workforce development projects throughout the Northwest.  The RETC has a strong focus on providing workforce opportunities in sustainable careers including the skilled trades.

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship position will be primarily focused on grant research and writing to fund or expand existing programs as well as creating new opportunities.   Specifically the duties of the position would include:

1)       Researching and participating in the writing of Federal  and State Grant opportunities either as the lead agency or as part of a coalition of partners

2)      Researching and writing grants to private foundations for specific programs and needs of the organization

3)      Creating a “library” of grant documents to improve the grant writing process moving forward for the organization

Additionally, the position will provide opportunities to participate in high profile projects including a Department of energy Smart Grid Grant, Veterans Training Programs, and K-12 outreach projects.   These opportunities would include:

1)       Participating in committees and task force meetings managing programs and projects

2)      Assisting in the planning and execution of outreach efforts

3)      Networking with potential partners with a focus on Director and Executive leaders

Work Conditions and Requirements

The position will require 20 hours of commitment per week and will be recognized as a 4 credit internship.   Work schedules will be flexible with approximately 1-2 days per week on site at the Satsop Campus and other times working remotely or at events in the region.  Some regional travel may be required.

 

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following attributes:

1)       The ability to work independently and take initiative on project deliverables

2)       A desire to pursue a career or pathway in non-profit management and an interest in sustainable workforce practices

3)      A customer first focus towards RETC clients, students, and partners

4)      Willingness to be flexible with work schedules and help other team members projects to ensure organizational and client needs are met

5)      Ability to create budgets and fiscal plans as part of project development

6)      Strong writing ability; with experience in grant writing a plus but not required

7)      Solid Organizational skills to create a strong BPO footprint

8)      A creative thinker able to find innovative solutions and develop new concepts for training programs

Submit a resume and cover letter in .doc or pdf format to ryan.davis@retcs.org by Aug 20, 2011.  Interviews will take place for selected candidates.  In-person interviews are preferred but web conference interviews are available for students pursuing opportunities outside the area over the summer.  The position will start with the commencement of the fall quarter but and earlier start date can be accommodated as well.

Compensation

The internship will pay a stipend of $1,500 for the fall quarter.   Travel expenses for job related travel will be reimbursed.   Potential exists for extended employment opportunities in the future.
