org<http://www.girlscoutsww.org/>) is currently seeking a knowledgeable, experienced accountant with experience in grant billing, budgeting and tracking to join our accounting team. The Senior Accountant / Grants Specialist helps to ensure financial sustainability in the organization by preparing balance statements, analyzing and preparing financial reports, verifying journal entries and deposits and performing bank reconciliation. They play a key role in fund development by providing accurate grant billing, budgeting and tracking. This is a full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits that include medical, dental, vision, 403(b) and paid leave.

Essential Functions:

Primary

* Prepare income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
* Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
* Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
* Maintain appropriate schedules of all Council fixed assets insuring that all new depreciable assets are tagged with asset number. Track expenditures and provide updated capital projects report in conjunction with the issuance of the monthly financial statements.
* Verify deposits with cash receipts daily report to ensure and that all funds are accounted for.
* Maintain Council’s insurance portfolio and services as the accounting lead for processing insurance claims, renewals, and forms making sure all assets have appropriate coverage.

* Calculate year-end accruals, prepare assigned schedules, and assist in the preparation of annual Council audit. Process year end close of general ledger accounts to reflect final audited balances as necessary.

* Conduct special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.
* Review, prepare, complete and post monthly journal entries, including account reconciliations.
* Perform bank account reconciliations monthly in conjunction with the review and issuance of monthly financial statements.
* Review all accounts payable requests for accurate coding in accordance with approved agency budgets prior to posting. Review and approve aged payables listing prior to each check run ensuring payables are paid on time and without late fees or interest charges.

Secondary

* Maintain up to date knowledge of chosen accounting software system.
* Support all grant billing, budgeting and tracking. This includes working with the Grant Writer in providing financial information necessary in the development and/or reporting of grants, working closely with staff involved with grants and contracts and providing support and training to ensure staff are able to meet any grant or contract billing or tracking responsibilities.
* Provide training and guidance to Council staff and volunteers in the areas of finance.
* May instruct, assign and review work of Accounting Specialists engaged in general accounting activities.
* Coordinates accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
* Provide back-up coverage for Payroll Accountant.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least 4 years related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience in a non-profit organization.
* At least 2 years’ experience in grant and contract billing and budgeting.
* Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines, work independently, take initiative and maintain confidentiality.
* Skilled in Excel, Word, Outlook and accounting software; MIP preferred.
* Payroll experience preferred.
* 10-key experience with speed and accuracy.
* Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds.
* Satisfactory results from criminal background check.
* Maintain membership in Girl Scouts of the United States of America.
