The program works with youth k-12 to support and encourage biking, walking and using transit. The assistant will be working closely with our Bike PARTners free after school build-a-bike program where students build and earn their own bikes, and with the Walk n’ Roll Program, a year-round Safe Routes to School program in 11 schools throughout Olympia, Tumwater, Lacey and Yelm.

Intercity Transit is currently recruiting for a Youth Education Assistant to perform support duties and activities related to the Marketing & Communications Smart Moves youth education program. The program increases awareness of transportation issues and use of active transportation options. The Assistant will work primarily with K-12 students, educators, school administrators, parents, and local program coordinators on projects related to alternative transportation and Intercity Transit services. The Assistant will support physical and environmental education as well as act as an activity coordinator. This is a non-permanent position expected to be available through July 2013 at 25-30hours/week. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Assist with classroom, after-school and other youth related Intercity Transit activities and events.
- Provide instruction, information and coordination of transportation related activities and assist in the development of curriculum and teaching tools.
- Implement activities through partnerships with schools and local organizations; assist with outreach events.
- Draft business documents, website content, newsletters, and press materials.
- Assist with resource material development; distribute materials to community schools, agencies or other community groups, and publish electronically.
- Provide interim support to other Marketing & Communications activities as needed.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years experience working with K-12 youth.
- Associates degree; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Education and/or work experience in Marketing & Communication or transportation desired.
- Ability to effectively coach, instruct and interact with diverse K-12 youth groups in a variety of settings.
- Support partnerships and maintain positive relations with a wide range of program stakeholders.
- Competent at writing business communications and drafting press releases and other marketing and public information copy, to include proficiency in English language, grammar, and punctuation.
- Proven strong administrative and project support skills, both in office setting and in the field, to include excellent computer and internet skills.
- Able to establish and abide by project timelines and budget.
- Must be willing to submit to a criminal background investigation, the results of which must meet the agency’s hiring criteria.
