The Girl Scouts of Western Washington (www.GirlScoutsWW.

org<http://www.GirlScoutsWW.org>) is currently seeking a full-time, year-round Assistant Camp Director to join our Camp Program team. The Assistant Camp Director will assist in all aspects of directing a summer resident camp – marketing, promoting, developing programs and recruiting staff – supervise the project staff in support of year-round camp programs and run year-round programming at various camps. By effectively assisting camp directors in developing, marketing and running camp programs and outdoor opportunities and by ensuring a high level of supervision and training of seasonal and project staff the Assistant Camp Director will contribute significantly towards meeting department and program goals. This position requires frequent weekend work, regular travel to camps in South Puget Sound (Mason County) and assignment for the summer at a resident camp – either Allyn or Lilliwaup.

Essential Functions:

Primary
Assist Camp Directors in the planning, marketing, implementing and evaluating of resident camp programs including the recruiting, hiring, training, development and supervision of summer camps staff.

Serve as back-up Site Host at Camps St. Albans, Lyle McLeod, and Robbinswold.

Recruit, supervise and train year-round project staff for programs at Camps St. Albans and Lyle McLeod. Run and assist in the development of weekend programs that can include archery, canoeing, swimming and require work at least one weekend a month.

Assist in the development and management of resident camp and year-round program budgets including mileage, program expenses and trainings.

Maintain high standards of program, health, safety and security of campers and staff in accordance with council, Girl Scouts USA, and American Camp Association guidelines and policies and ensure standards are met in all areas of responsibility.

Support Director of Camp Programs in achieving team goals. Including camper recruitment, program goals, budget goals, and customer service.

Coordinate with the Program Registrars to ensure that camp, program and Encamporee registration information is accurate and up-to-date. Prepare and distribute resident camp registration information to appropriate staff as needed.

Provide back-up staffing when project staff is not available.

Provide quality and timely customer service to volunteers and staff.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of education and work experience

* Must be at least 21 years of age

* One year experience assisting in the management of, residential or comparable camp programs preferred

* At least one season as an onsite camp staff member supervising seasonal staff

* Demonstrated understanding of customer service and guest relations. Effective conflict resolution skills

* Demonstrated success in leading a diverse seasonal staff and volunteers

* Demonstrated success in designing and implementing innovative youth programs and delivery systems for diverse populations

* Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds

* Experience in the development and administration of work plans, budgets, and program evaluation

* Experience with waterfront, horses, archery, trips and environmental education programs preferred

* Willingness to live and work on site during the summer. Housing provided for the summer camp season only.

* Availability for regular weekend work outside of the summer camp season

* Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within one month of hire

* Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred

* Ability to secure and maintain valid small craft safety and archery instructor certification within six months of hire

* Outdoor education certifications strongly preferred. (Watercraft, climbing, life guarding)

* Proficiency with computers and basic office equipment including Microsoft Office suite

* Valid Washington State driver’s license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance, or the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across widespread region – primarily Mason, Thurston and Pierce counties.

* Willing to maintain membership in Girl Scouts of the United States of America

* Satisfactory results from criminal background search
