Job Opportunity: Aquarist at the National Aquarium (Washington, DC)

The National Aquariums Fishes Department is looking for an Aquarist to provide assigned specimens with excellent day-to-day care, keep exhibits and reserve tanks well maintained, participate in the acquisition/disposition, transport and acclimation of specimens and participate in the design, construction and maintenance of exhibits and reserve tanks as necessary.

Essential functions of this job include organizing the acclimation, care and feeding of plants and animals, observing medical conditions that may require attention, maintaining the cleanliness and artistic quality of the displays, training new staff and volunteers and presenting at seminars and member programs.

Required Skills/Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Oceanography or a related major, or equivalent experience is required. Minimum 1 year experience in an aquarium or zoological field with emphasis on closed aquatic systems along with proficiency in the treatment of common aquatic diseases and husbandry techniques and strong communication skills are required. SCUBA certification is required.
