Host a living tree to celebrate the holidays and participate in a grove-planting work party and celebration in the New Year! Deadline, December 3rd. See below for more details.
Join Capitol Land Trust this holiday season by hosting a living tree native to our region—and in the New Year, helping us plant the trees at Green Cove Creek Preserve, a watershed that Capitol Land Trust is working to conserve and restore. The planting site will be named the Community Winter Holiday Grove, and will represent a living message from today’s inhabitants of the local community to those who will live here in the future.
For $30, we will provide you a living Douglas-fir tree, 4-5 feet tall, sculpted for the holidays, with a rootball in burlap. We will distribute trees on the weekend of December 15-16 (place and times to be determined), and we will provide a tip sheet for proper care of your holiday tree during its stay in your home. Alternatively, you can purchase your own native tree (Douglas-fir, Shore pine, Sitka spruce, Grand fir, Western hemlock, or Western redcedar) for the holidays and participate for $5.
The commitment: host a living tree to celebrate the holidays, and participate in a grove-planting work party and celebration in the New Year. The planting celebration will be on a Saturday in January or February, depending on weather, for about two hours, to prepare the site and plant the trees. On set days in the future you will be able to pay your tree a visit, and you will be invited to join work parties to maintain and further the restoration project that the Grove is a part of. In the coming 100 years the Grove will contribute to clean water and air, healthy fish and wildlife, and biocarbon solutions to climate change. We estimate your tree will absorb about nine tons of carbon dioxide pollution from the atmosphere in that time—a small but inspiring declaration of respect for our community’s future citizens.
The deadline to sign up and make payment is December 3—or as soon as space in the Grove has been filled, whichever comes first. To participate, sign up and pay online at https://climates.ejoinme.org/?tabid=426319, or fill out and mail in the form at http://climatesolutions.org/programs/NBI/winterholidaygrove-1 along with payment.
