The George Washington University invites applications for a non-tenure track, adjunct teaching faculty position in environmental science.  The successful applicant will have a PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related natural science discipline, as well as teaching experience.  We will also consider individuals with an MS, and significant teaching and professional experience.

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a two-semester course in GW’s masters program in Environmental Resource Policy.  This is a core course required of all students in the program.  The course is a broad survey of environmental science intended for graduate students who have had only limited exposure to the natural sciences as undergraduates.  Topics to be covered include geological and geo-hydrological systems and resources; ecological and biological systems and cycles; human population dynamics; land and water use; energy resources and flows; land, air, and water pollution; human health and environmental risk assessment; and global environmental issues including climate change and loss of biodiversity.  While the policy relevance of various environmental science topics is noted during the course, the course does not address environmental policy issues directly, as these issues are covered elsewhere in the curriculum.   Class sessions – scheduled once a week – comprise a mix of lecture and hands-on group work by students.

Visit http://programs.columbian.gwu.edu/enrp for more information about the program.

The initial appointment will be for the 2013-2014 academic year, but may be renewed based on performance and continued program need.

Interested applicants should send a C.V., and a summary of their teaching philosophy and relevant teaching experience, to linquiti@gwu.edu.

Review of applications will begin on March 31, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.
