This position is located within the Coastal Resources Management Office, Office of the Governor.  The incumbent is directly under the supervision of the Coral Reef Monitoring Biologist.  The incumbent will work on the implementation of the CNMI’s Marine Monitoring Program and provide support for projects pertaining or related to coral reef and marine monitoring activities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Conduct marine monitoring surveys designated within the near shore coral reefs and reef flats in CNMI.

·         Assist with all aspects of data entry, analysis and quality assurance/quality control

·         Assists with all aspects of the program maintenance including preparations for field work and gear repairs

·         Assist with grant related reporting requirements to local and federal agencies.

·         Write quarterly reports on progress of assigned duties to be submitted to the NPS Manager.

·         Participate in public outreach activities including school presentations and coordinating awareness campaigns

·         Participate in any and all program activity meetings as required by Program Manager.

·         Assist with boat and gear maintenance.

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor degree or higher is preferred in marine biology, biology, natural resource management, environmental science or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE

A combination of one (1) year experience in an environmental related field work.  This position requires that the applicant be comfortable in the water, SCUBA certified, and able to snorkel and travel in a boat.

 

Must possess following skills: Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

Annual Salary:  $24,000 to $26,000 per annum plus fringe benefits.
