ECOSS is hiring a Sustainable Business Associate

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a unique opportunity to work with local businesses to help them
improve their environmental performance through implementation of
sustainable business practices. This position will deliver technical
assistance to small and medium size businesses that often do not have
resources of their own to address environmental issues. The new hire
will work with businesses on a cross-section of environmental issues,
including water conservation, energy efficiency, solid and hazardous
waste and stormwater issues. The position is full time and includes a
combination of field and office work.
ECOSS is a community-based non-profit organization working to protect
our region’s natural resources, assist local businesses and provide
information to residents. We provide multi-lingual,
environmentally-oriented education, technical resources, and other
services that protect our watersheds, reduce pollution and hazardous
wastes, conserve water and energy, and assist property owners in
cleaning up contaminated land.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESConduct outreach and provide education and
assistance to businesses in Seattle and the surrounding region, focusing
on the industrial, maritime, and transportation sectors Conduct
assessments and provide information, resources, cost benefit
information, and other tools to encourage adoption of sustainable
business practices Connect businesses to local incentives to defray
costs associated with equipment upgrades, capital purchases and
workplace improvements to support business retention and expansion
Conduct presentations and network with key business and community
groups, such as chambers of commerce, industry councils, neighborhood
associations and other nonprofits, to increase program
participationProvide key referrals to consultants, fellow ECOSS staff,
local government departments and other firms to help implement
sustainable business practices Provide leadership to assist with the
development and ongoing growth of the programOrganize, track, and manage
activities, deliverables, and budgets for a variety of contracted and
grant-funded projectsCompose and submit project reports

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (natural science, environment,
sustainability, business administration, engineering, policy, non-profit
management)At least two years work experience in non-profit,
business/industry, public policy or related field
Demonstrated leadership and ability to work independentlyExperience in
managing projectsSuperior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to network and build relationshipsExperience providing
presentations and technical information to a wide range of
audiencesCorrespondence with key stakeholdersExperience managing
multiple activities under multiple deadlinesExcellent skills with
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerpointCommitment to and knowledge of
business sustainability, resource conservation and community development
issues Willingness to engage in and support other organizational
efforts, such as annual fundraisers, membership campaigns and community
eventsA clean driving record and a reliable vehicle for outreach work
(mileage reimbursed for work activities)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s degree in a related field (natural
science, environment, sustainability, business administration,
engineering, policy, non-profit management) Five or more years work
experience in non-profit, business/industry, public policy or related
fieldExperience managing staff, contracts, grants, and budgetsExperience
in stormwater issuesProficiency in another language and/or exposure to
multicultural communitiesExperience conducting outreach and providing
assistance to diverse businesses Experience collaborating with local
government to provide services and incentivesA good sense of humor

COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience. Monthly reimbursement for health
