SALARY RANGE: $65,000 to $75,000 per year

DESCRIPTION

OFM’s mission is to provide accurate and timely information, fiscal services and policy support that the Governor, Legislature and state agencies need to serve the people of Washington state. The Communications Manager is part of a four-person communications team that supports all divisions in OFM as well as the Governor’s Office.

The Communications Manager’s primary roles are to oversee and coordinate all OFM and Governor’s Office website activities (governor.wa.gov<http://governor.wa.gov>, ofm.wa.gov<http://ofm.wa.gov> and hr.wa.gov<http://hr.wa.gov> and others) and, as needed, serve as backup media relations representative and backup publications coordinator. The Communications Manager also serves a variety of other roles on the OFM communications team. Specific responsibilities include:

– Lead strategic planning, design, development, implementation and project management for all OFM and Governor’s Office Web and intranet sites (includes analyzing and providing Web statistics as needed, writing and developing Web content and representing OFM and Governor’s Office on statewide website committees and work groups);

– Advise the OFM communications director, Governor’s Office Communications Director and other top management staff on statewide public information policies and issues, including participating in the management decision-making process. In coordination with the OFM and/or Governor’s Office communications directors, serves as spokesperson for agency to news media and the public; on a regular basis, serve as communications/public relations manager to OFM division heads; help plan, develop and direct complex and extensive information and public relations programs based on agency internal and external communications needs; analyze extent of public understanding of OFM programs and evaluate effectiveness of information and public relations activities and recommend changes as warranted.

QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or closely related field.

– Web/tech background; experience in Web design, projects and content.

– Excellent organizational, writing (especially for the Web), editing, verbal and customer service skills.

– Ability to work with variety of customers and stakeholders, including Governor’s Office, Legislature, state agencies, media and the public.

– Strong project management skills; able to create project plans, identify resources and meet deadlines.

– Multi-tasker, able to shift gears easily and often.

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to look at all aspects of a situation and determine appropriate message to be communicated.

– Familiarity with Content Management Systems (Drupal, SharePoint ideally).

– Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite 6 – Dreamweaver, Fireworks and InDesign (if possible).

– Familiarity with analytics tools (Google Analytics, SiteImprove).
