Dr. Amber Himes-Cornell, a social scientist at NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center, is looking for a research assistant to assist with a research project studying voluntary active participation measures, crew compensation and quota share lease rates in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands crab fisheries. We are interviewing a variety of stakeholders in the fisheries, from vessel owners to quota share holders to crew, to get wide range of opinions on 1) The challenges and incentives present that can complicate policies designed to affect active participation, crew compensation, and lease rates; 2) The efficacy of current cooperative-developed measures to address these issues; 3)The access to owner quota shares and the functioning of this market; 4) The future of the fishery as a reflection of the discussion topics.We are looking for research assistants that can help us transcribe the audio recordings of the interviews during summer 2014. The contract will end officially September 19, 2014. Compensation will be $20/hr for time spent interviewing and transcribing.
