The Town of Vail is now hiring an Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to join the town in our stewardship and protection of our unique mountain environment. This exciting position will be responsible for implementing the actions identified under the Town of Vail’s environmental sustainability strategic plan and the adopted environmental programs. Working with the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator will be involved in current initiatives such as the Community Wide Recycling and Waste Diversion, Gore Creek water quality improvement effort, Celebrate Green! Special Events Program, Green Certification, Energy and Data Tracking.
Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
Promoting renewable energy, resource efficiency, ecosystem protection, and community awareness.
Assisting with environmental sustainability education, communication and outreach including public education campaign and presentations.
Serving as a liaison between the Town, local stakeholders and the business community by providing information, on-site assessments and coordination on environmental initiatives.
Coordinating internal and external efforts related to efficient use of resources, reduction of waste, prevention of pollution, recycling and utilization of renewable resources.
Data management (tracking, reporting, and demonstration of improvements over time).
Management of the Vail Improvement Process as an integral component of departmental operations. Assures that continuous improvement in productivity, cost and quality are annual objectives. Measures success by improvement ideas generated.
Is responsible for complying with all Town of Vail safety and health policies, practices, and procedures meant to prevent and/or mitigate human economic losses arising from accidental causes and/or adverse occupational and/or environmental health exposures.
Manages by emphasis on personal choice and responsibility. Encourage personal accountability, partnerships and teamwork. Always strive to exceed performance and service levels to our customers and our organization.
Skills / Requirements

Qualified applicants must be passionate about environmental sustainability, have excellent public speaking skills and be comfortable representing the Community Development department in all venues.
In addition they must meet the following requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental sustainability, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field or equivalent experience required.
Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a related field including a strong technical knowledge of environmental systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental sustainability principles and practices with experience in public education, waste diversion and or water quality improvement.
Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.
Excellent communication, interpersonal ability.
Superior customer service, relationship building and follow up skills.
Previous experience in a cold climate/cold weather environment.
Valid Colorado Driver’s license.
Ability to travel to stream sides, wetland, riparian areas and construction sites with exposure to unfavorable weather conditions required.
Lifting, walking, bending, and carrying light packages/supplies required
