This full-time position is part of the Technical Services Division, Groundwater Section.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the Groundwater Section, which identifies, monitors, and quantifies the groundwater resource of the state. This position will directly contribute to meeting Recommended Action Items 1a (Conduct Additional Groundwater Investigations), 1b (Improve Water Resource Data Collection and Monitoring), and 1c (Coordinate Inter-Agency Data Collection, Processing, and Use) of the State’s 2012-17 Integrated Water Resource Strategy. This position represents the Department in policy making and/or program development at cooperating state and federal agencies. The position designs and conducts technical investigations to determine hydrogeologic characteristics of aquifers, determines quantities of groundwater available for use, determines effects of groundwater development and land use on groundwater and surface water supplies, and identifies options and makes recommendations regarding the curtailment of groundwater use or development.

The position may develop or amend administrative rules through the agency schedule for rulemaking. The position may develop administrative controls on groundwater use. Such efforts result in rules and orders that are adopted by the Oregon Water Resources Commission, and in interagency and intergovernmental cooperative agreements that protect the water resources of the state, the rights which appropriate those waters, and other natural resources of the state.
