RESPONSIBILITIES: Educators are responsible for leading groups of 10-15 students outdoors for 1-5 day programs in a residential setting; developing and implementing culturally-competent, inquiry-based field science and environmental education curricula for youth and adults, including hikes, lab studies and other educational activities; and managing risk in the field. Educators work an array of field science education programs including school groups, family programs, adult programs, teacher professional developments, and, occasionally, conference and wedding groups. Educators design and implement programming that is age and ability appropriate, value-fair, culturally responsive, and incorporates NatureBridge’s Core Educational Framework. Educators also work a rotating support position that facilitates meal shifts and provides program support.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications include: BA/BS; experience working with youth; minimum of two years relevant teaching experience and/or training; experience teaching in the outdoors; experience with scientific research; effective communication and interpersonal skills; experience working with diverse groups; sense of humor and play; ability to implement and model excellent risk management practices and maintain a safe environment for our students; ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends; excellent work ethic; current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications; current drivers license; teaching credential or master’s degree a plus.
COMPENSATION: Starting compensation is $80+ per diem; additional compensation for evening/weekend work. Housing and some meals provided. Paid training and professional development opportunities. Full benefits package includes vacation, sick leave, medical, dental, retirement, etc.
