Job description

Pacific Science Center is seeking both full-time and part-time Outreach Educators to present Pacific Science Center’s Outreach Education programming at schools and community events across the Pacific Northwest in order to expand our role as a driving force for science education. Each Outreach Education Teacher provides programming at schools, community centers and preschools in the Pacific Northwest by presenting assemblies, setting up hands-on exhibit areas and teaching science lessons during the school day and in out-of-school settings. Non-teaching time is directed towards logistical arrangements and travel for school visits, along with program administrative and curricular projects as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have: A Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related field; A valid driver’s license and good driving record; Experience working with elementary-aged students in a formal and/or informal educational setting; Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Documents; Proven verbal and written communication skills; Detail orientation with excellent organizational skills; Proven problem solving skills and initiative; The ability to maintain high level of productivity in a dynamic office environment; The flexibility to work on several projects at once, and the ability to change priorities as needed both in terms of management’s needs and customer’s needs; The ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people; Excellent customer service skills including the ability to serve Pacific Science Center staff and outside contacts in a courteous manner; The ability to work independently; The ability to be a smiling team player with a positive attitude, service orientation and knowledge of Pacific Science Center programs. Candidates must be at least 21 years old for vehicle insurance purposes. A teaching certificate and/or previous experience at a museum or non-profit is desired.
