Northwest Parks for People Program Manager

The Parks for People Northwest Program Manager will be responsible for the full range of activities associated with the development and implementation of a strategic new Parks for People Program in the Northwest. This position will play a key leadership role in developing and implementing a robust Parks for People program in the Northwest, and will work closely with local Northwest teams, and will serve as a liaison to national Parks for People staff/leadership.
The Program Manager will work most closely with the teams in Washington, Oregon and the Northern Rockies and will be based in the Seattle office, although the first year will involve significant travel to Bozeman, Montana, with the possibility of extended stays there
Essential Functions
Develop and define program goals and milestones in coordination with the state directors and local teams
Build and manage external partnerships in collaboration with state directors and local staff
Manage the design, reactivation, restoration, and construction of capital improvements for park, garden, trail, and playground development projects throughout priority urban areas
Conduct site selection and evaluation for new parks, playgrounds and Fitness Zones®
Select and manage vendors (including contracting of landscape architects and construction professionals)
Conduct conceptual design development
Identify new projects and partnership opportunities
Identify priority neighborhoods in each urban area
With local staff, conduct community outreach and stakeholder engagement
Work with the local Philanthropy team to build philanthropic support for program
Qualifications
A degree in Landscape Architecture or similar from an accredited university; licensure a plus
5-10 years of experience that includes project management, urban community park planning and construction
Excellent oral, written and graphic communication skills
Experience in hiring and managing contractors to design and construct urban park improvements
Experience working for or with community based organizations and public agencies
Ability to manage complex projects from start to finish with moderate level of supervision
Must have the ability to determine procedures on new assignments and provide guidance to others
Demonstrated ability to function well as a team member
Self-starter, independent, strong ability to and comfort with working remotely
High degree of creativity, vision, and resourcefulness
An awareness and understanding of environmental justice issues in underserved communities
Ability to collaborate and negotiate with diverse groups and interests in dynamic, diverse urban environments
Budgeting and time management skills
Ability to conduct frequent, independent travel
Computer proficiency: AutoCAD, Adobe CS and Microsoft Office; SketchUp a plus
Fundraising and marketing skills a plus
Nonprofit experience desirable
