Water Resources & Stormwater Planner
Salary: $5,509.00 – $7,345.00 Monthly
Summary of Duties
This position works within the Utility Planner classification for Thurston County’s Resources Stewardships Water Resources division. The Water Resources and Stormwater Planner coordinates the development and implementation of highly complex environmental resource plans, such as basin and watershed characterizations, resource protection plans and stormwater management plans and the associated studies, programs, policies and regulations for the Stormwater program. Provides team leadership for planning and public outreach and participation on interagency and citizen-based committees.
Plans, prioritizes, assigns directs and reviews the work of project staff and consultants responsible for water resources studies and stormwater system planning. Serves as technical specialist to engineers, planners and department managers interpreting state, federal and local regulations as well as tribal interests in the area of water resources, and public policy. Communicates with citizens, community organizations, stakeholders, and advisory committees with diverse interests and expectations. Solicits public involvement and presents County policies, findings, and recommendations.
Provides technical support for NPDES municipal stormwater permit compliance tracking and progress reporting, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development and implementation, and compliance with the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program. Prepares and influences budgets for projects. Develops, administers, and coordinates grants and consulting contracts.
Communicates effectively with individuals and groups regarding complex or controversial public policy issues or services.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in planning, biology, environmental science, civil engineering, public policy, administration or closely related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Five years of progressively responsible experience related to any combination of community development, stormwater or water resources management.
Current Washington State Driver’s License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
