Mason Conservation District Position Announcement Position: Environmental Specialist/Conservation Planner Compensation:

 Starting salary DOQ. 

Salary depends on a combination of education, experience in conservation planning, knowledge of water quality issues and possession of job related skills.

 This is a grant-funded position. The position is also subject to an “employee at will” doctrine. Position Description: The duties of the person in this position will be to work with private landowners to develop resource management plans within Mason County. Responsibilities:  Assist landowners/operators in the development of resource management plans and the implementation of Best Management Practices. These practices will be designed to improve water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, and agricultural management.  Acquire knowledge of scientific and engineering principals relative to conservation planning applications, both in the field and in the office.  Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.  Prepare reports on activities and progress as directed by the District Manager.  Continue to improve technical skills by attending training sessions and workshops.  Properly use and maintain district field equipment and supplies.  Conduct essential conservation fieldwork under minimal supervision or independently.  Attend meetings and programs that may require occasional evening and weekend work.  Document all work, including hours, tasks completed, numbers of conservation practices utilized, acreage affected, contacts with cooperators, number of volunteers, etc.  Prioritize work schedule to meet the needs of the District. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental or physical science, environmental education, or one of the natural sciences, agronomy, soil science, or livestock management. Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license and a licensed personal vehicle in good working order.
