This is your opportunity to join the dynamic Education team at Woodland Park Zoo. Applications are now being accepted for Education Content Coordinator in the Early Childhood Programs department. There is one full-time, regular, benefited position to be filled at this time. The pay rate is $17.57 per hour.

The Content coordinator is a new (22 month) grant funded position responsible for the development of program themes, outcomes, messages and scripts that inspire the diverse audiences who visit the zoo to build empathy and caring for wildlife. This position will be responsible for working with program developers to review content and ensure empathy-based messaging is at the core of each program. Content review of such programs includes animal presentations, classes, special events and informal interactions on zoo grounds. This position will also collaborate with Animal Management to develop animal stage presentations and deliver staff and volunteer trainings on best practices in creating emotional connections through guest engagements. This position will work closely with the Interpretive Engagement team, collaborate with Audience Research staff, the Presentation Animal Coordinator and the Collection Manager to assure that empathy-based programmatic goals and outcomes are being achieved. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who is skilled in designing, implementing and evaluating creative visitor engagements. The successful candidate will have experience working with program animals, and a passion for connecting with children and families and fostering empathy and caring for wildlife. This position is also responsible for the overall coordination of functions, staffing, logistics and activities of education programs and projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of empathy-based messaging in education programs, projects and protocols.
  • Serve as lead staff for specialists, instructors/presenters, volunteers and interns.
  • Schedule programs, staff, volunteers and resources as needed.
  • Lead program and project development teams associated with empathy initiative.
  • Coordinate, develop and facilitate trainings for staff, volunteers and program participants that emphasize the importance and development of empathy in our interpretive programs.
  • Coordinate research, development, revision and dissemination of program/project supporting materials and interpretive elements.
  • Support supervisory team in maintenance of internal and external partnerships.
  • Present engaging programs, experiences and activities to audiences of all ages on and off zoo grounds.
  • Evaluate programs and interpretive elements.
  • Collect and report statistics and prepare reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
