The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is currently recruiting for two student positions. One position will focus on botany related work and the other will assist the wildlife program. Both positions will report to the USACE office at Fern Ridge Lake, west of Eugene, OR.

The botany position duties will include monitoring and surveying for rare, sensitive and/or ESA listed plants such as Willamette daisy (Erigeron decumbens), Kincaid’s lupine (Lupinus oreganus), Thinleaf pea (Lathyrus holochlorus), and others, surveying and treating invasive plant species, assisting with restoration projects, supporting nursery and greenhouse operations, and assisting with some wildlife surveys.

The wildlife position duties will include surveys and monitoring for wildlife species such as Western Pond Turtles, Purple martins, Bald eagles, and others, managing wildlife habitat, and assisting with some botany and vegetation surveys.

Recruitment is limited to students within the commuting area of Fern Ridge (50 miles). Positions will be part time while school is in session and full time during the summer break.

Desired qualifications for both positions include relevant course work, field experience, willingness and ability to work long hours outdoors in inclement weather and hot summer temperatures, enthusiasm, and desire to learn more about stewardship and land management. Some remote sites will be accessed by kayak or motor boat.
