The Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a TMDL Project Manager (Environmental Engineer 5) position. This position is located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA. The TMDL Project Manager plans, and conducts independent investigations of, and proposes solutions to environmental engineering problems and principles that require the research and application of mathematical modeling of water quality, effluent dilution, and pollutant loading capacity in support of complex Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Studies in compliance with the federal Clean Water Act. This position gives you the opportunity to work with different model scenarios, mentor junior staff, and be a part of a modelers group. The Environmental Assessment Program provides a range of scientific, monitoring, laboratory, and quality assurance services. Its mission is to measure and assess environmental conditions in Washington State.
Some of the key work activities for the TMDL Project Manager (Environmental Engineer 5) position include:

Required Qualifications:
A Master’s degree with major study in one of the following engineering fields, sanitary water resource, civil, geotechnical, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or related field
AND
Registration as a professional engineer in the state of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington
AND
Four years of experience in any of the above engineering fields.
A Ph.D. in one of the above engineering fields will substitute for two years of the experience in any of the above engineering fields.
Knowledge of: environmental sampling techniques and, environmental data analysis techniques including statistics.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington. Knowledge of principles and practices of water quality analysis. Ability to plan and perform water quality monitoring, data analysis and QUAl2Kw modeling; understand and interpret written and oral directions, maps, ArcGIS, drawings, and specifications; deal tactfully with government and industrial officials; prepare written reports and make oral presentations.
Note: Requirements for registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington are eight years of professional experience (which may include up to four years of college-level engineering education) and successful completion of sixteen hours of professional licensing exams. Applicants qualifying through the licensing equivalency option must achieve registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington within six months of appointment to this class.
