Sustainability Coordinator

Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Sustainability Coordinator. SIU Carbondale is a Carnegie doctoral research extensive public university with a diverse student population of over 21,000 students from throughout the United States and over 100 foreign countries.

The Position: The Sustainability Coordinator will provide leadership for sustainable practice initiatives at SIU Carbondale and will work closely with the University’s Sustainability Council, other campus departments, and the external community. The Coordinator will serve as the University’s chief contact regarding the development of sustainable initiatives and practices, the identification of opportunities, and the evaluation of results.

Job Responsibilities:
 Strengthen the University’s commitment to sustainable operation on the campus through the promotion of practices and solutions that positively impact students, staff, and the region. The Sustainability Coordinator will develop, implement, and evaluate programs and campus initiatives designed to engage and educate students about sustainability efforts and the benefits of sustainable practices. Through exceptional organizational project management and administrative skills, advance the campus commitment to sustainable operations. The Coordinator will build collaborative and effective working relationships with a diversity of campus stakeholders. The Coordinator will identify external funding opportunities for research projects related to sustainability.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in environmental science, public administration, or a related field. Three years of experience in coordinating, organizing and implementing programs and events that included strong communication and interpersonal skills and training and/or experience in resource conservation and sustainability practices. Supervisory experience, management of environmental resources in public or private settings, and familiarity with higher education organizational and operational structures are preferred.

Compensation: $3750-$4333/mo.
