Hello Volunteers – Happy Summer!
- Weekday work parties continue throughout the summer on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
- Weekend volunteer events will shift to Sunday mornings for most of July and August due to summer environmental education activities on Saturdays.
- Park Stewardship welcomes Charles Rambo to the team as a new Trail Stewardship volunteer coordinator! Charles will lead trail work parties this summer at Watershed Park and Priest Point Park on Fridays and Sundays. See the trail work party series below for dates and times.
Upcoming General Work Parties
For all work parties, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots that can get wet and muddy. Youth under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult and all youth under 18 years must have a signed Waiver and Medical Alert or have a parents’ signature on the sign-in roster at the project work site.
Yashiro Japanese Garden

Monthly park improvements continue at Yashiro Japanese Garden! Grab a pair of gloves and join in! Volunteers will weed flower beds to help maintain this unique vegetation and landscape. Meet inside the garden located at 1010 Plum St SE.
Decatur Woods Park

Let the weeding begin! As part of the Pesticide Free Park initiative, volunteers are needed to help keep up with landscape maintenance in neighborhood parks. Join Park Stewardship at Decatur Woods to keep unwanted vegetation at bay. Meet under the covered shelter. Decatur Woods Park is located at 1015 Decatur St SW.
Friendly Grove Park

Vegetation control continues on the eastside of Olympia! Volunteer at Friendly Grove Park to weed tree circles and flower beds that were mulched earlier in the season. Meet under the covered shelter near the main park entrance at 2316 Friendly Grove Rd NE.
Margaret McKenny Park

This neighborhood park is in need of tender loving care! Join Park Stewardship at Margaret McKenny Park to weed and mulch tree circles. Meet in the large grassy area next to the swing set. Margaret McKenny Park is located at 3111 21st Ave SE.
Harry Fain’s Legion Park

Invasives are back! Follow-up with restoration efforts at this shady neighborhood park. Beat the heat by being active in the morning hours! Volunteers will meet under the small shelter in Harry Fain’s Legion Park at 1115 20th Ave SE.
Yashiro Japanese Garden

Park Stewardship continues monthly volunteer clean-up at Yashiro Japanese Garden with a Wednesday work party. Efforts will focus on weeding the flowerbeds to compliment the larger park improvements to be completed throughout the summer and fall. Meet inside the garden located at 1010 Plum St SE.
Percival Landing

Don’t let the weeds get the best of you! Gather at this downtown waterside park to join efforts in beautification. Volunteers will weed flower beds at Percival Landing to help keep the space spruced for summer! Meet under the covered shelter near the parking lot at 405 Columbia St NW.

Tired of salmonberry slapping you in the face as you hike through Watershed Park? Lend a hand to clear the trail from encroaching vegetation! Volunteers will meet in a central location to obtain tools and gloves before heading down the path to project locations. On June 26th, 28th, and July 5th, meet your guide at Harry Fain’s Legion Park, 1115 20th Ave SE to enter Watershed Park through a side entrance. The meeting location for Friday, July 10th will be at the main entrance to Watershed Park at 2500 Henderson Blvd SE.

Now that the trail is cleared from vegetation and we can see where to place our feet, it’s time to fill in those holes! Help spread gravel and improve the walking surface at beautiful Watershed Park. Skip the gym and grab a bucket instead! Volunteers will meet in a central location before heading down the path to project locations. On July 12th, meet at the McCormick Ct entrance to Watershed Park, 2308 McCormick Ct SE. Participants will gather at the main entrance to Watershed Park at 2500 Henderson Blvd SE for work parties scheduled July 17th, 19th, and 24th.
